Education and Experience
I’m Kara Petredis, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I graduated from Oregon Health and Science University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and completed my Master of Science in Nursing at Gonzaga University in 2021. My nursing career has been an incredible journey, taking me from trauma and neuro critical care, surgical services, and to outpatient community health. Today, I specialize in integrative psychiatry at Kardia Integrative Psychiatry, the practice I founded. I believe deeply in a collaborative, heart-centered approach to care, honoring each person’s innate wisdom in the healing process. Currently, I’m completing a fellowship in functional and integrative psychiatry under Dr. James Greenblatt, and I’m passionate about blending evidence-based treatments with functional medicine and holistic therapies to address the root causes of illness. My mission is to support clients on their path to wellness, valuing the healing journey as much as the destination.
I work with children, adolescents and adults experiencing a wide range of symptoms including depression, mood disorders, post-traumatic stress, anxiety, disordered eating, ADHD, and more. While I do prescribe medications, I view them as a tool to manage symptoms while we address underlying factors that are contributing to symptoms. This may include lifestyle modifications, correcting nutritional deficiencies, considering medical comorbidities, and learning to effectively manage the chronic stress so prevalent in our busy world.
My areas of specialty also include:
- Psychiatric Evaluation
- Medication Management
- Supportive Psychotherapy
- Functional Medicine Testing
- Psychogenetic Testing
- Heart Math Biofeedback techniques
